Dr. Bill Holmes, Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, thanked those in attendance for being present.

Report from Teacher Education & Alternative Certification Program. Dr. Lula Henry stated that Post-Baccalaureate program numbers are down. The program has 12 interns placed this semester in various regions of the state. She also mentioned the need for Spanish, Math and Science teachers. Dr. Henry stated that assistance is needed from departments to help with content reviews for students who are pursuing certification in a particular content field such as History, Math, Music, etc. 

Report from the Office of Field Experience.  Dr. Gayle Butaud stated they have placed 40 clinical teachers in 15 districts on 30 different campuses for the fall semester. There are approximately 142 students currently enrolled in field courses.

Update on EDLD Program.  Dr. David Wallace shared that there has been an increase in enrollment for the fall semester in the Principal Certification Program. He also mentioned that work on SPA reports for CAEP has been ongoing and productive. Dr. Wallace stated that field observations required in the program are currently be conducted online; however, the state is now requiring that at least one observation be conducted face-to-face and this will have an impact on the program in general. 

School Counseling Program.  Dr. Weinbaum shared that the counseling program continues to thrive. She stated the online School Counseling program has approximately 800 students enrolled and there were 110 new applicants to the program for fall 2016.

Educator Preparation Assessment Steering Committee.  Dr. Donna Azodi stated that the committee is looking at assessment data and how that data can be used to improve programs. Teams have been formed to focus on each individual standard and how to continuously improve them. She also stated that the next visit for CAEP accreditation will happen fall 2019.

Update on TEA. (Handout)  Dr. Cindy Cummings gave an update on TEA and some of the new rules that are being implemented. She mentioned that our accountability rating will now be based on the students 2^nd attempt of the state test (TExES) even though candidates are given 5 attempts to take the test.  Dr. Cummings stated that students wishing to enter an EPP program are required to have 12 hours in their content field before being admitted to teacher prep. Candidates who are seeking certification in Math or Science must have 15 hours in their content before being admitted to teacher prep. She also stated that TEA will be implementing a new fee of $55/student which will be incurred by the institution and will be used to fund a new assessment system.
