The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in Room 219, Wimberly Bldg., at 1:30 p.m. 

Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Dorothy Sisk, Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Max Loges, Dr. Xuejun Fan, Dr. Maurice (Nick) Rissman, and Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor attended.  Also present was Carmen Breaux, Coordinator of Graduate Studies.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the February 17, 2016 (#422) meeting were reviewed by the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the document, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

Course Additions/College of Arts and Sciences

Course addition ENGL5344 (Writing Workshop) with 9 repeat hours, was submitted by the department of English and Modern Languages to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Loges motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course additions CRIJ5321 (Constitutional Law), CRIJ5322 (Correctional Systems), CRIJ5323 (Homeland Security), CRIJ5324 (Serial Murder) were submitted by the department of Criminal Justice to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Fan motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Additions/College of Education and Human Development

Course additions EDUD6328 (Technology Mediated Teaching and Learning), EDUD 6320 (Foundations of Distance Education) were submitted by the department of Educational Doctoral Leadership to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Rissman motioned to approve, Dr. Sisk seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Additions/College of Engineering

Course addition ELEN5313 (Robot Motion Planning), was submitted by the department ot Electrical Engineering to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Loges motioned to approve based on clarification of hybrid course and correction of minor misspellings in syllabus, Dr. Sisk seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Additions/College of Fine Arts and Communication

Course addition MUED5371 (Pedagogical Applications of the Development of Bands and Band Literature) was submitted by the department of Music to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Fan motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Change/College of Arts and Sciences

Course change ENGL5333 (Studies in a Particular Author) with a maximum repeat hours 9 was submitted by the English and Modern Languages department to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Loges motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Changes/College of Education and Human Development

Course changes CNDV5392 (Clinical Mental Health Practicum), CNDV5393 (Counseling and Development Practicum), and CNDV 5394 (Clinical Mental Health Internship) were submitted by the Counseling and Special Populations department to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Fan motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Changes/College of Fine Arts and Communication

Course changes SPHS6311 (Introduction to Evidence-Based Practices and Instrumentation), SPHS6312 (Introduction to Hearing Aids), SPHS 6313 (Acoustics and Psychoacoustics), SPHS 6318 (Cochlear Implants), SPHS 6319 (Advanced Clinical Practicum), SPHS 6321 (Advanced Hearing Aids), SPHS 6322 (Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear), SPHS 6326 (Research Methods), SPHS 6331 (Auditory Processing Disorders), SPHS6342 (Electrophysiology),

SPHS 6343 (Pediatric Audiology and Genetics), SPHS 6352 (Aural Rehabilitation), SPHS 6354 (Vestibular Assessment and Management), SPHS 6361 (Medical Audiology), SPHS 6362 (Pharmacology), SPHS 6363 (Differential Diagnosis), SPHS 6371 (Advanced Rehabilitation and Case Studies), SPHS 6373 (Hearing Conservation), SPHS 6381 (Practice Management), SPHS 6382 (Analysis of Professional Literature), SPHS 6639 (Externship in Audiology) were submitted by the  Speech and Hearing Sciences  Doctor of Audiology Department to the Graduate Council.  The Graduate Council reviewed the documentation and Dr. Rissman motioned to approve, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approve.

 

Discussion- Clarification of transferable hours from one Master’s degree to another was discussed by the Graduate Council. No further discussion was determined to be required on this topic.

 

Conclusion: The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
