GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in the Wimberly Bldg., conference area, room 219 at 1:30 p.m.  Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Dorothy Sisk, Dr. Max Loges, Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor, and Dr. Tracy Benson were in attendance.  Also present was Dr. Charlotte Mizener from the College of Fine Arts and Communication, Music Department.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the March (#434) meeting were reviewed by the Graduate Council.  Dr.  Sisk motioned to approve the documents, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

College of Fine Arts and Communication

Dr. Charlotte Mizener was in attendance from the Department of Music to present a proposal to add an emphasis in the Kodaly approach to teaching music in the current Master of Music degree.  Course additions MUED 5321(Inquiry in Music Education) and MUED 5361(Advanced Choral Music Materials & Methods) were also submitted to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Department of Deaf Education- Ed. D. Program Plan Changes.  The new degree plan proposed by the Deaf Education Department will no longer include nine hours of the Statistics and Research Methods courses EDUD 6350(Quantitative I), EDUD 6351(Quantitative II), and EDUD 6318(Quantitative II).  The new degree plan will replace the EDUD courses with a choice of twelve hours from the following courses: DSDE 6316(Research Design and Statistics I), DSDE 6317(Research Design and Statistics II), DSDE 6320 Introduction to Qualitative Research), DSDE 6321(Advanced Qualitative Research), and DSDE 6315 (Statistics).  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Business

The College of Business submitted a proposal to add an additional course option to their MBA-ERP Certificate program.  The new course addition is MISY 5370(Data Mining & Predictive Analytics). Dr. Sisk motioned to approve with minor corrections to the course addition form, Dr. Loges seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Engineering

Dr. Jerry Lin submitted a request to waive the GRE admissions entry level requirement for the College of Engineering for Graduate Students based on the condition that they pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examinations administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).  Dr. Kucknoor motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Civil-Course additions CVEN 5366 (Travel demand analysis), CVEN 5370(GIS Applications in Engineering), and CVEN 5333(Advanced Pavement Analysis and Design) were submitted by the College of Engineering.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve with minor corrections to the syllabi and course addition forms, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Education and Human Development

A proposal to revise the M. Ed. In Educational Administration from 36 to 30-hours was submitted along with two course additions, EDLD 5319 (Current Issues: PK-12 Leadership) and EDLD5355(Principles of School Leadership).  After review of the submissions, Dr. Benson motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, September 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
