Call to order: 3:51 p.m.

Approval of Minutes: Judy Smith made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Lula Henry seconded the motion, and it carried.

Old Business:

• • ARTS 4343:
    
    • Use the current DRC statement.
    • Combine the grading scale with the grading policies for clarity.
    • Check to determine if your office hours meet with the departmental policy.
    • Lula Henry made a motion to approve the course with corrections. Stefan Andrei seconded the motion, and it passed.
  • BIOL 3470:
    
    • The syllabus needs pre-requisites and course description.
    • Do you want the stats class as a pre-requisite? If so, it needs to be in the syllabus, form and proposed description.
    • There are 2 honesty policies. Eliminate one of them.
    • Judy Smith made a motion to approve the course with corrections. Lula Henry seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • CHEN 3330:
    
    • The continuity statement is missing.
    • The DRC statement is missing.
    • The emergency policy is missing.
    • The student learning outcomes are missing.
    • The office hours are missing.
    • The pre-requisites are missing.
    • The course descriptions need to match on the syllabus and form.
    • Stefan Andrei made a motion that we send the course back for rewrites. George Kenyon seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • DSDE 4313:
    
    • Actual office hours need to be included.
    • The DRC statement needs to be complete.
    • Judy Smith made a motion to approve the course with revisions. Lula Henry seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • MATH 3301:
    
    • Move the instructor information to the top of the syllabus.
    • The pre-requisites and co-requisites need to match on the form and syllabus.
    • The DRC statement needs to be completed.
    • Include a course schedule.
    • Change the word “accommodations” to DRC.
    • Clarify the results of the second or other additional missed exams.
    • Be definitive about the tardy policy.
    • There needs to be only one academic honesty policy.
    • Lula Henry made a motion to send the class back for corrections. Catalina Castillon seconded the motion, and it passed.
  • MEEN 4334:
    
    • The course descriptions need to match on the form and the syllabus.
    • The course schedule is missing.
    • There is a typo under the grading scale. It should read discretion.
    • Change the title to read academic honesty policy.
    • Change the title of the DRC policy.
    • Judy Smith made a motion to approve the course with changes. Lula Henry seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • SPSH 4335:
    
    • The pre-requisites need to be included on the syllabus.
    • Office hours need to be included on the syllabus.
    • Remove (81) from the academic honesty policy or explain it.
    • The academic honesty policy needs to include penalties.
    • Change the title on the DRC policy.
    • The continuity statement needs a title.
    • Catalina Castillon made a motion to accept the course with changes. Boyd Lanier seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • SPSH 4337:
    
    • The pre-requisites need to be on the syllabus.
    • The DRC policy needs a title.
    • The full DRC policy needs to be included.
    • The full academic honesty policy needs to be included and labeled.
    • The attendance policy needs to include penalties.
    • Clarify the policy if more than one exam is missed.
    • Clarify if the class is online or hybrid.
    • Reverse the order on the grading scale for the 90-100 A so it matches the rest of the scale.
    • George Kenyon made a motion to send the course back for corrections. Judy Smith seconded the motion, and it carried.
  • Spanish Degree Plans:
    
    • Certification Course Degree Plan has 123 hours required for completion
    • Suggest changing Academic Elective hour from 12 back to 9 which will result in 120 hours total to be in line with recommendations for all Bachelor Degrees.
    • Students must take 2312 and 2315 in order to be able to take 3000 level courses for major
    • Core credit needs to be better explained-Suggested that it say Core 42 hours plus 3 hours Arts and Science elective to equal 45 total hours.
    • On the concentration section, the last two points need to say Span 3 or 4 or (French/Philosophy/English/History 3 or 4.
    • The department accepts 9 hours of CLEP credit.
    • Non Certification Degree Plan: Change the last 2 points in the concentration section to match suggested verbiage above for clarity.
    • Delete the statement “or other Philosophy course” in the section for Culture, language, English, philosophy on both degree plans.
    • Boyd Lanier motioned to approve both with suggested revisions. Lula Henry seconded. Approved by consensus.
    • DSDE 1374
      
      • Syllabus needs office hours added
      • Need to include letter equivalents for grades
      • Attendance policy needs to be tightened up. Rather ambiguous at present.
      • Put all information regarding attendance in one place. Currently found references in three separate places.
      • Missing the Continuity Statement
      • Make-up policy is too arbitrary-needs to be more definitive as to the penalties
      • What are the actual recommended texts for the course? Currently has texts listed in two separate places that have different texts listed.
      • Change Disabilities Statement to say DRC and add the full correctly worded statement.
      • Needs to remove all redundant material from the syllabus.
      • George Kenyon moved to send the syllabus back to the department for correction. Catalina Costellano seconded. Approved to return the syllabus to the department.
